Diesel Generator, Stationary 8KW, S195 China Diesel - $2000
This is a stationary, single cylinder diesel generator that provides 8000watts and is capable of powering a whole house. We’ve powered our solar house with this machine since 2004. It always provided us with plenty of electricity for all our needs.
This machine is a S195 Changchai China Diesel and was manufactured in 1999. We purchased and installed new in in 2004.
Here are some Details on the Generator Set:
*The engine has 1177 hours on it.
*It comes with a sophisticated Murphy Controls:
It turns the engine on (with a 30 second pause for the glow plugs to operate),
The control also has an automatic over temperature and over crank shut off.
The Murphy Control allows the unit to be started remotely. You’d need to run a wire to the location that you’d like to remotely start it from.
The Murphy Control allows the Genset to be set up to an automated system that turns on when the grid power fails.
The Murphy Control will attempt to start the engine 3 or 4 times before it stops.
The Murphy Control has an hour meter on it.
*It's got an external cooling system (radiator and fan) that works great.
*It uses a 55 gallon drum as an external fuel tank.
*It uses a large battery for starting and this is charged by an aftermarket battery charger.
*The flywheel is apx 18" in diameter.
*It sips fuel, only about a pint an hour.
*Being a diesel, it doesn't like to start in the winter. What worked for me is aim a torpedo heater at it for a half hour and it starts right up. If you attempt to start the generator in the winter without adequately warming the starter eventually fails.
*Aside from cold weather related issues (ie starter) the machine has performed impeccably.
*It’s supposed to be able to be started via a crank on the front, but I’ve never figured out how to do this. Comes with the crank.
*The weight of the engine is 145 kg or apx.300 lb. The whole kit with the engine, alternator, base, fuel tank, radiator, 55 gallons of fuel etc. add up to around 800lb.
*This system comes with all the manuals and a “how to” book called More Power to You by Skip Thomsen.
*You’ll need to put the machine in a shed to protect if from the rain.
*It comes with apx 150’ of 8/3 Romex and apx 40 gallons of diesel.
*We paid around $3500 for this machine and would be willing to sell it for: $2800
